Quick apartment update:
I love Williamsburg, but I feel so isolated there that I haven't been able to take advantage of all it has to offer.
My new apartment is in a tall building filled with mid-20's guys and gals. I can walk to and from work--and in the amount of time it now takes me just to get to the subway! (Right now, it's a half-hour ride on the subway--on a good day--after that!) A movie theater is two blocks away, there are lots of small, fun restaurants right there, as well as my gym, which is in the same building. Fantastic! I can walk to Union Square (did it last night in about thirty minutes) to ABT ballet classes and/or anything else that it has to offer.
As for the apartment itself, the room is a bit of a postage stamp compared to what I currently have, but I sat down with Microsoft Paint last night (in the absence of graphing paper) and figured out that I can fit all my furniture (and even a new wardrobe) in the room--once I switch to a twin bed from a double. (As a side note, I have no math skills left, which is very embarassing. In order to try to figure out how far into the room the French doors swing, I tried to find the two equal sides of a right triangle when I knew the hypoteneuse . . . and failed miserably. In fact, if anyone could remind me how to do it, I'd be most appreciative. I knew "c" and put it into a^2 + b^2 = c^2, and then I substituted a for b, since the sides were equal, and got 2a^2 = c^2. Okay--I think I just found the mistake. Is it supposed to be (2a)^2 or 2a^2? Thanks!) Anyway, two "walls" of the room are windows, since it's a corner room, and two shutter-like French doors lead from the kitchen into the room. My closet is down the hall, so I'm planning to purchase this wardrobe from Ikea, as well as this bed because it has under-bed storage.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July and Canada Day!
