"One from column A and one from column [crap]."

The title of this entry comes from the movie Camp. The line is actually something to the effect of, "My life is like . . . one from column A . . . and one from column sh*t." Truthfully, I never really understood this comment in context. The most desired boy at theater camp is talking about a disorder that he has where he counts the number of letters in every sentence, word, etc. unless he takes his medication. I've always supposed that what he means is that he is very lucky in many respects of his life but that he got this one crap deal in life.

At least, this is how I felt yesterday when I found out that the film version of one of my favorite books has finally found a distributor and will be released April 22. This was column A. Then came column [crap]: the release is limited and the film will not be shown anywhere near New York or Boston. The film is called The Game of Their Lives, same as the book. It follows the 1950 soccer team that the U.S. sends to the World Cup. In a complete fluke, the team (hung over, some still drunk) beat the unbeatable British team. I'm sure that the movie will chalk the win up to American hardwork, patriotism, etc.--therefore undermining much of the book's point--but I do still want to see it because I'm a total sucker for underdog-sports movies like Hoosiers, Field of Dreams (slightly different, I know), and Miracle. Katie, the movie is playing *all around* your area (a little north), so if you have any desire to see it and wind up doing so, I'd be very interested to hear what you think.

Currently listening to: The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty
Currently excited about: the Maroon 5 concert Dan and I are going to on Thursday; one of his friends bailed on him, so he wound up with an extra ticket!
Also, I watched Croupier again last night (saw it when it came out and have never forgotten it), and remembered just why I love Clive Owen.
