This website has really been annoying me recently. Actually, I should probably be more specific: it's not the website so much as the interaction of the software with my computer and my work internet connection, or something like that. Basically, I've written several looooooong posts that have dribbled off into the ether. Oh well. What can you do, right? But because of this, I'm literally going to go for broke and just type type type as quickly as my fingers will allow (79-words-per-minute at last testing) and write whatever comes into my head so that if this post doesn't go through, I won't have wasted as much time as I usually do.
I went home for Easter and was picked up at the train station by my mom who had come down with a bad case of the flu. (NB: My cyber-stalking skills are greatly in need of some sharpening. Details: tall, blonde kid with long-ish hair, plays ice hockey at Columbia, went to St. Mark's for high school, took the 4:00 PM Friday train to Route 128 and the 6:30 AM Monday train back to Penn Station. I can't find out who he is! I'm really slipping or slacking . . . unless he's already graduated, but who wears their college letter jackets after graduating, right? So, anyone with a friend at Columbia, you're being called in as a reservist.) My mom and I finally finished our taxes, and I'm getting a big refund, which is nice. I've decided to open a multi-purpose establishment where I cut hair and do people's taxes--kind of like the combo casino/laundromat I saw in South Dakota. I don't know what I'd call it. Any suggestions? My mom was sick the whole time I was home, so the only time I left her alone was Saturday night when I went out with Becky for dessert at Cafe Tosca in the Hingham harbor area. My favorite restaurant, Fire King, used to be in the space, and I highly approve of the new restaurant, a lower-cost, lower-key version of its namesake Tosca, which is across the street. It was great to catch up with Becky whom I hadn't seen since she visited New York in September--though I still call her all the time to ask life's important questions such as, "That song that goes 'Big wheels keep on turnin' / Proud Mary keep on burnin' / Rollin' rollin' rollin' on the river'": is it called 'Proud Mary' or 'Rollin' On the River?'"
I'm thinking of painting my room and am trying to decide between a light yellow and a light mauve. Thoughts? It gets awfully dark, so I want something that will help lighten the room. My curtains, quilt, i.e. "color scheme," is a light green color.
I got my first Iowa state quarter today. Sweet.
I was very sad to discover that the Pitfall game that you can download from Cingular does not function on my cell phone.
I received my 20-game Atari system in the mail yesterday. The description on-line didn't say what games were on it, and it turns out that I only know three of them, but--on the other hand--I was very excited to discover that they kept a number of the old bugs in the games (whether they purposely kept them or accidentally left them in is another question). Sadly Pitfall, Midnight Magic, Joust, and E.T. ("literally the worst game ever," said in the most loving voice possible) are not included.

Hi Nell! I was wondering why you hadn't posted in a little bit. Sometimes I write my posts in Word and then copy/paste them to the blog to prevent them from "dribbl[ing] off into the ether."
I vote for light yellow for your room! :)
I definitely need to start doing that. Every time it happens, I tell myself, "Nell, write it in Word!" but Myself is kind of disobedient. ;)
I think I'll probably go with light yellow in the end. My mom's comment was, "Just make sure you pick a color that won't make you overwhelmed or dizzy when you wake up in it. Try to avoid what you did with your wallpaper at home." My wallpaper at home is nice in small doses, but I have a lot of wall space and very little on the walls right now since I took a lot of my pictures to Brooklyn. My room sort of looks like the Secret Garden before Mary and Colin fix it up . . . on steroids . . . doused in light blue paint . . . that Laura Ashley vomitted on. Ha. I think my mom was referring more to the "Yellow Brick Road" color I showed her on Behr.com, so I think I'll go with a much more muted yellow--more of a yellow/beige. It's so tough to decide!
