I found this entry saved from months ago. It was unfinished. I can only guess where I was going with this based on the title I had already chosen. I've put what I think was my intended ending in blue.
Do you remember Joseph Gordon-Levitt? He was on "3rd Rock from the Sun," played Cameron in 10 Things I Hate About You, and stole the show from Tony Danza and Christopher Lloyd in Angels in the Outfield as a child actor (and, when you think about it, Tony Danza arguably was The Boss, so taking anything from The Boss should be considered a major accomplishment).
10 Things I Hate About You has always been one of my favorite movies for its quick dialogue and sense of humor about itself. It's fun. Truthfully, I didn't pay much attention to Mr. G-L, as the movie was so much an ensemble piece, but he's pole-vaulted into my consciousness over the past few years.
I don't remember and am far too lazy to look up whether or not I wrote about Mysterious Skin when I first saw it. I was absolutely thrown for a loop. I had no idea he had that depth and range. In other words, "Who'd'a thunk he had it in'im?
Certain actors or actresses have one great performance in them. Neve Campbell in Panic comes to mind. I remember reading a review that said, "She shouldn't have been this good." Not "I was surprised she was this good." Not "Kudos to her for being this good." "She shouldn't have been this good."
Now, Mr. G-L was so real, so troubled, so effective that it was immediately clear that he does not fall under this Campbell heading.
All that, and he sings, too. I really just want to share this song that he covered. Click on the link to hear the song.
