Aubrey made an absolutely gorgeous bride.

After the wedding, I went home to spend the rest of the weekend with my mother since her 65th birthday was upcoming. The day I was supposed to return to New York, she asked me to get out the new scissors and help trim the cat's clumps of fur. Oreo is almost 19 years old and has recently gone deaf and started exhibiting other signs of aging. One of the most recently developments is that she's stopped grooming herself as obsessively as she once did and--as a result--wound up with huge matts of fur all over her body. I held her close and just as I was about to cut her fur, she wiggled.
Fast-forward to several hours and eight metal stitches later . . . and Oreo is now shaved from the neck down. She looks ridiculous, and my heart still breaks thinking about how I hurt her. The vet actually suggested we keep up the "modified lion cut" that she has because it helps keep her tangle free, but we can't look at her without laughing, so I'm not sure how realistic that expectation is.

Poor Oreo! And poor Nell!--I know you must have felt so horrible. I'm sure Oreo has forgiven you.
Nell, I'm sort of traumatized to see my happy event juxtaposed with your poor cat's harrowing one. I hope I didn't somehow indirectly cause Oreo's defurring!
-Aubrey, whose first word was 'cat'
I was traumatized to have the two events happen so close together! I was in such a good mood after your wedding, which mood was brought to a crashing halt with the Great Oreo Debacle of 2006.
Katie, I do hope she's forgiven me! My mother took her to have her stitches removed yesterday and had blood work done while she was there. I'm praying that she's healthy. We think she may have diabetes or something similar and will put her down if the medical bills to keep her comfortable are too expensive.
Poor little Oreo!
