Snoozing and Losing

Thank you, Katie, for kicking my bum and reminding me that I need to post more often! ;) So many things have been going on recently that I've been narrating a lot in my head, but somehow pen and paper (well, you know what I mean) never meet.

I've lived in New York for almost two years now (will be two at the end of August), and I'm finally starting to enjoy the city for what it is. For far too long, I felt like I could have been anywhere from Toledo, Ohio, to Springfield, Arizona, and I wouldn't have known the difference. I've started to get out more, to take part in what the city has to offer, to hear concerts, to see dance performances, to taste different foods. I'm in a very good place right now.

This upcoming weekend is going to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. Most of the track is up, but the one major dip down is that my good friend Katherine D. is moving to Washington DC. Katherine's been one of my closest friends in the city for the past year. On the upswing, however, Becky P. (one of my best friends from high school) is moving into the spot left vacant in my apartment by my roommate who's moving out! I am *thrilled* to have such a close friend in such close proximity. Becky's actually moving in while Katherine and I visit our mutual friend and my college roommate, Melissa M., in Connecticut. We're going to hear three of my favorite bands play . . . and I'm going to hear all three play tonight in New York as well--with Aubrey.

I was in my third wedding two weeks ago. This was a second marriage for both my cousin and her (now) husband. Because of this, the ceremony was very nontraditional: Dan's son walked both Dan and Kristin down the aisle, and I didn't know I was going to be in the wedding until a few days before. We didn't rehearse at all . . . but it was truly beautiful! It took place in Minneapolis, and I wish I could have spent more time there than the thirty-three hours that I did. My mom came out for the wedding as well, so it was lovely to get to see her. Here's a picture of me and my cousin kissing the Snoopy statue outside the reception hall (a former speakeasy housed in a cave!) in St. Paul:

Nell, thanks for the update! I love the picture. And that is SO great that Becky is moving in with you. You two have always been good for each other I think. :)
