Am I alone in thinking that Dick Cheney's friend that he accidentally shot may have died on the scene? Maybe I'm too cynical. Maybe I've seen the movie Dave one too many times (some would argue that once is already one time too many, but I actually kind of thought it was sweet). I can't help but think this is all a brilliant PR move and that a second round of complications (after the heart attack) will "take his life" in a few days. If this is what's going on (and I definitely could be wrong), I'm not in any way arguing with the Administration's decision to handle it in this manner. I think there would be no other way to handle such a painful and awkward situation. Fables teach us that George Washington could not tell a lie, but sometimes the tasteful handling of a situation and the avoidance of the ruckus and uproar that would come from such an event are more necessary than the truth. Yes, the White House will find itself under fire over the issue no matter what, but this option would avoid immediate calls for resignation and protests from PETA (or even the use of the incident as political and advertising fodder for PETA). I guess what I'm saying is that if this poor man dies in a few days, I won't be surprised.
Update: I was totally and completely wrong. I am so thankful for this man and his family that I was.

i loved that post. i secretly love Dave. the scene where they pretend to be president impersonators. priceless. but yes, i totally agree with you. it's sad that we can have a non sarcastic discussion about this actually happening in this day of age. hope all is well!
Yeah, I love that scene, too! I forget what song it is that they sing, but it cracks me up every time. I prefer The American President to Dave if we're doing a hierarchy of movies of that ilk, but I really do love Dave. I was actually thinking about you the other day when I watched Hocus Pocus. How are you doing?
