As I type this, I am sitting on our Ikea couch in the middle of our living room. I'm huddled under two blankets, not having really moved from this spot for a day now. No, I'm not sick--yet. I awoke early yesterday afternoon (yeah, I was out a little too late Friday night after my firm's holiday party) and immediately went to the oven to cook dinner to bring with me on the movie shoot. After several minutes without the pilot light doing its job, I realized that the apartment was surprisingly cold. Even though the heat was set to a temperature below what it was, the heater was silent. Somehow (and it is still not clear almost 24 hours later) Keyspan (our gas provider) shut off our gas when it was supposed to shut off that of the apartment next to ours. So, somehow we're both without any sort of gas (meaning no showers, no hot food not delivered from a local restaurant, and no heat). It's a very long, complainy story, but I had to miss my film shoot last night to wait for people to show up and now I'm here from noon to six PM waiting again for the Keyspan people to show up.
One good thing about being forced to the couch is that I can appreciate Jake Gyllenhaal's birthday in true style: if by "true style," you mean watching his movies that I own--which is exactly what I mean by that phrase. So, I must bid you adieu as I try to decide which movie to watch: October Sky, Donnie Darko, Lovely & Amazing, The Good Girl, Highway, or Moonlight Mile. So, I can watch Jake as the slightly quirky, deeply troubled love interest or the slightly quirky, deeply troubled love interest. Hmmmm . . . decisions, decisions. ;)
