"Find the fun and 'SNAP!' the job's a game."

That's great for Ms. Poppins, but she clearly never page-checked closing documents for distribution that the copy center messed up in such a unique way that she and Matt have to take trips to the copy machine every two minutes and replace pages throughout document. She clearly never had to work until 11:30 two nights in a row until her eyes started to spin in her head like the head spun in The Exorcist.

But, to give her the benefit of the doubt, I'll try to find the good in this: overtime. Overtime money is definitely a good thing. It helps pay for . . . everything. Free dinner. When you work past 7:30, you get free dinner. Free car ride home: don't have to walk ten blocks in the cold from the subway to my apartment. Books-on-tape: I've listened to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night (excellent!), The Andromeda Strain (wasn't impressed), Something Rotten (the latest in the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fford--fantastic!), and most of Austen's Persuasion (I love Austen). Music/bonding: the other paralegals and I get lots of extra tries to get our songs ("King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West and "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins (?)) on the radio and to win tickets to the Counting Crows because fewer people call in the later at night it is. So, as Pollyanna would say, those are the things I'm "glad about."

I am exhausted, however, and see no end in sight to the madness. Maybe I'll just move in and sleep on the couch in the women's room on the 28th floor (work on the 42nd but we don't have a couch; the firm has floors 27, 28, 41, & 41, which use different elevator banks). So, phew--I think I have that complaint out of my system . . . for the next few hours at least. Try me at about 10 PM tonight when I've missed another episode of The Apprentice and I drop a stack of papers. But, "good thoughts, good thoughts." Must. Cleanse. Self. of. Evil.

Happy Birthday, Matt T!

Currently Reading: Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer <--enjoying but not as much as Into the Wild just because I preferred the other subject matter, but still very interesting
Currently Listening to: Ex-Girlfriends by Low Millions <--soooooooooooo good!!! (also getting into Morphine a little right now, too; was always scared by the band's name and thought they'd be harder metal than they are--always sad when you get into a band five years after the lead singer passes away)

"No obstacles; only challenges."

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is on my list on Amazon--we're so in sinc! :) I'm glad you liked it; that'll spur me to buy and read it too, after I read the stack I've got piling up.

I think you work more than any friend I know. Free dinner and car rides sound OK, though, and so does overtime pay. I hope you're at least having as much fun as possible. :)

Hurrah! Did JD make some sarcastic comment back? Dang.

And, yes, they lied--but only if you take a job whose description says "some overtime is required." If you get a REAL 9-5, you'll be golden. I'm just glad that I'm not as ambitious as IBankers who have to put in the time to advance in their careers. Basically, I can't go anywhere with my job, so they have to pay me for any extra time I put in.
